"I certainly didn’t start my career thinking I would become an Athletic Director! During this workshop I will share my crazy career journey; talk about balancing career and personal life; share a bit about being a woman in a male-dominated profession; and provide some insights that have shaped by career path and personal philosophy."
Anita Barker is in her 11th year as the Athletic Director for the University’s 13 intercollegiate athletics teams. Barker graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1985 and received her master’s from the University of Arizona in Tuscon in 1987. Barker has successfully worked to build on the prior success of the department and continues to focus on improving fundraising and marketing efforts to offer more athletic grant-in-aid to deserving student-athletes. During the 2009-10 school year, Barker was honored for her individual achievements when the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) named her the 2009 Division II West Region Athletic Director of the Year. She will also serve as President of the Division II Athletics Directors Association (D2ADA) through the 2013-14 academic year.
